Notification for commencement of an exclusive
contract with EuroCor (Japanese domestic market) |
|
|
|
As of the end of October, Goodman has entered into
an exclusive distribution contract for the Japanese domestic market with
EuroCor GmbH (CEO Dr. Michael Orlowski, hereafter referred to as EuroCor), a
German based company that has developed and distributes a drug eluting stent (DES)
and drug eluting balloon (DEB). |
|
|
|
1.Purpose of Contract: |
|
From the commencement of sales, DES quickly penetrated the intravascular
medical device market throughout the world. However, sales within
Europe and the United States have declined following numerous presentations
at medical conferences regarding problematic late in-stent thrombosis with
current drug eluting stents.
For this reason, a contract was entered
into for the purpose of quickly bringing product to the domestic market that
can address with certainty the current problems and conditions.
EuroCor is a leading catheter manufacturer
for the European market for conventional balloon catheters, bare metal stents
(BMS) and drug eluting stents, with additional proprietary product utilizing
cutting edge technology, primarily focused on the European marke,t will now be
released in other markets around the world.
Products of particular note are:
Next generation Drug eluting stent:
Taxcor-CC, and,
Drug eluting balloon: Dior and Freeway
These two large scale products have been selected for inclusion in the
exclusive domestic (Japan) distribution agreement. |
|
2.Summary of products for importation |
|
The drug eluting balloon is a simple and unique concept, with a paclitaxel
drug applied to the balloon material without any need to employ a polymer
or gel. It is expected that revolutionary treatment will be feasible
with this product, for cases where implantation of a stent in a lesion
is contraindicated. This product will not be limited to the field
of cardiology, but will also be of great benefit in the peripheral field
(ischemic vessels). Having already obtained CE marking (regulatory
approval), actual clinical use of over 10,000 catheters has been achieved
since the commencement of sales.
Goodman will be actively pursuing
government approval in the domestic Japanese market for the drug eluting
balloon line up (DIOR for the field of cardiology and FREEWAY for the treatment
of the peripheral field).
The other large scale product is a drug eluting stent (Taxcor-CC), which
as with the drug eluting balloon, utilizes the drug Paclitaxel for the
treatment of cardiovascular disease. This is another product in a
series of DES, with accumulated sales of over 35,000 catheters with the
European market.
Working in a 60ƒÊ world, the stent struts of the cobalt chromium platform
are completely coated with an inert material (diamond-like carbon (DLC)),
providing a superior stent design. After drug elution, the inert
material remains in contact with the vessel wall and blood flow, and without
using a polymer considered to be a major cause of late stent thrombosis
associated with conventional market stents. Furthermore, this coating
material has superior anti-thrombotic properties (anti-platelet functionality),
efficacy has been proven in various in-vivo trials. |
|
3.Moving forward |
|
Goodman, acting in co-operation with
EuroCor, will be focusing on quickly gathering various data required for submission
to obtain government approval as quickly as possible. |
